The Academy of Music and Theatre Arts (AMATA) is Falmouth University’s live arts centre and café bar, based on the Penryn Campus. The venue is a ‘Learning Theatre’ and co-exists with the academic faculty providing a portfolio of undergraduate degrees in music, theatre and dance. AMATA’s facilities include 11 main performance and rehearsal studios, with flexible seating capacity of up to 200 in our main Studio Theatre space.
AMATA’s vision is ‘to be a space where future generations are ignited by a world of creative possibility.’ We programme contemporary, cutting-edge, up-and-coming & high-quality professional performances for students to experience on their doorstep, whilst they are studying here. The programme includes a diverse range of theatre, dance, music, comedy, and work for children and family audiences. It also provides an accessible entertainment offer to engage the wider communities, both on campus and in the surrounding area.
We provide a range of opportunities for young people including Saturday morning classes and showcase opportunities, summer schools, events and workshops led by visiting artists.
We support artist development through our newly- launched Associate Artists scheme and our residency scheme. We also work with our partners, Hall for Cornwall, masterclasses for professional dancers or dancers in training.
AMATA’s Director is Terrie Fender, who has overarching responsibility for AMATA and the Performance Programme is managed by AMATA’s Production Team, which includes 3 members of staff. We programme collaboratively with our group of Student Champions and Advisory group, including a representative staff member from each subject area.
