LU Arts is Loughborough University’s arts programme whose primary objective is to make the arts a more central part of the student experience.   We do this through the provision of a broad programme of activity that supports students who are already highly engaged with the arts to those who have had no or little engagement.   We situate activity in locations that students inhabit, we work closely with the halls and student unions, and we deliver against key areas such as health and wellbeing and enterprise and employability.   Increasingly, we try and devolve delivery of activity to students, employing them to deliver and promote activity and encouraging them to be more ambitious via the provision of arts grants.

A separate strand of activity is Radar, a contemporary arts commissioning programme that engages with academic research through delivering artistic outputs alongside critical debate.  This supports research via public engagement activity and innovative cross disciplinary outputs.

LU Arts is also responsible for the care and maintenance of the University art and sculpture collection.   We also look to develop this via new commissions that add to the collection.

We are a small team consisting of four staff, three of which are part time.   We sit within Marketing and Advancement but also have an Arts and Events Committee which reports to Senate.
