The Edge

The Edge is an arts and creativity hub which houses the spacious Andrew Brownsword Gallery, two theatres, and visual arts, dance and music studios. Based on the University of Bath campus, the centre promotes the art in science and the science in art, mixing artists, researchers, and academics to create a unique and fascinating programme.

The Edge is an arts and creativity hub informed by the context and research of the University of Bath. The centre encourages and nurtures arts/research collaborations, providing a place where artists, audiences, researchers and academics can find new perspectives and fertile ground to showcase new thinking and ideas. Mechanical engineers meet sculptors interested in moving structures, architects work with designers to shed new light on the nature of play and how architecture influences it, whilst artists bring together inventing and engineering expertise to create artworks of scientific complexity.

The Edge is managed by the University of Bath’s Office for the Arts, led by Jamie Eastman, Director of Arts and Culture. The centre presents a year-round programme of exhibitions, performing arts, talks, arts classes, family and community events. It provides experiences of educational, emotional and intellectual stimulus, bringing together creativity and discovery to promote the power of arts, well-being and innovation.

The centre is home to the spacious Andrew Brownsword Gallery, a lively café bar, theatres, and visual arts, dance and music studios, providing provisions for University of Bath students, staff, as well as public spaces open to all. The Edge fosters the belief that everyone can contribute and be creative.
